I thought I posted a reply yesterday but do not see it. Here goes again.
What would be your guess as to the front to rear footprint of the roller? I would guess 1 inch, maybe 2. If it is one inch times 48 inches wide, that is 48/144 which is 1/3 of a square foot. So 900 lbs divided by .33 sq ft is 2700 psf, or lbs per sq ft. Your tractor tires might amount to 4 or 5 sq ft of footprint. 3300 divided by 5 is 660 psf. I think no matter what the exact measurements are, your roller will put more psf than the tractor.

I thought the 790 was a successor to the 770, but that's just a guess. You would have to have one heck of a magnet to hold to a steel axle through an aluminum housing.

Make sure to read the "I Did It" thread also from today. I think the poster is talking about a new 4100 with FEL, and he's only paid $11,000 but with a rear mower instead of a belly mower. You better ask him to be sure.

Todd, if the two problems turn out to be minor bugs then I think you got a good deal. I paid 9500 for a much younger 755 with FEL, rear mower, and pretty worn tiller. And I know that was a great deal. The extra HP of the 855 would be nice, it would be the ideal tractor for my situation. You guys were starting to worry me about the 2,000 hour mark, but there are posts here I believe that say that the same basic engine routinely goes 10,000 hours in refrigeration truck trailer applications. A little different service but still a good sign. I see that in the current lineup JD has gone to lower revving motors, and I imagine they will see longer service lives as a result. Roger, does the block heater result in less cylinder wear on cold weather startups, or what?

Will you need a tractor to mow or otherwise do work around your 10 acres? Probably not, it sounds like you just have a small lawn and the rest is wild hillside?
Except for the part about excavating the 60 yards, I think a very small compact tractor would be great. I'm thinking Kubota BX2200 or JD4100 for example. They would be reasonably kind to your septic field and have lower CG than bigger machines. It's too bad that it is so hard to find big garden tractors with loaders, and that the new ones with loaders are as much or more than a BX2200. Because once you get the hole dug, a big garden tractor would be super. From the MSRP on the Cubcadet web site, it looks like $13,800 with fel is a good deal, but it looks like a bigger heavier machine. And it is a gear unit, which will not be as easy for precise fel work as a hydro unit. Although you will get used to it. The 7200/7205 are smaller and maybe better for your septic and hillside concerns. For sure you would lose the sales tax and then at least the $2000 you suggest. Plus the cost of tire ballasting and operation costs. I guess I would buy the brand that has the best resale value if I was for sure going to resell it. Around here that would be Deere. There are no used BXs yet, but I bet one would have high resale value, better than the Cub. Around here a new BX2200 with 60" mower deck and fel is about $12400 plus tax. You might not need the mower deck but if it's a lot cheaper bundled with the new unit then you probably should buy it for resale sake. Lastly, don't give up on buying a good used machine, they are always out there. It took me a while but I found mine. -Don M

I think it is a good price. A good alternative would be a Kubota BX2200. But for the money, if the 4100 seems the right size for you, it's a good deal.

It is 33 HP at the motor and 27 at the PTO.
I don't know about the 40A loader. I would have thought it has a 70A, which will lift 850 pounds to 77.3 inches when installed on a 955. Breakout force is 1300 pounds.

You know, it's So Easy to get hung up on specs and such. "Gee, this one's loader lifts 89 pounds more than the one I thought I wanted, and it lifts 1 inch higher too! But the 3rd one has 1 HP more.... Now what should I do?...."
As the one poster said, do your homework, but find the one that feels right to you. If it doesn't feel right to you, all the specs in the world won't help.

I have mentioned in a few posts that I don't like the way my King Kutter finish mower moves side to side. Today I figured out that the problem was in my 3 point linkage, not in the mower's. My sway chains were too loose. It seems like a good mower deck and I wanted to set the record straight.-Don M

No, you have nothing to worry about.
Most gas stations turn their inventory a LOT faster than you would imagine. The "stale fuel" thing is mostly just a legend now, as non-viable stations have all closed.

The King Kutter is a full floating design and from that standpoint it does very well. The problem is that it floats side to side as well. They could have eliminated that with a better linkage. I don't know why they allowed it, I can't see any benefit from it. I assume they did it the cheapest way.

Matt, I like my JD 755 for the same reason, it is very compact. Sometimes a bigger tractor would be better, but I tried a big old Ford and it just couldn't fit anywhere.
